Last
November, Tull had a concert in Mumbai just after the horrific
terrorist attack. Many deaths were directly due to sparse ambulance
and emergency care availability for rail commuters.
The band donated its artist fee for the concert (along with generous donations
of fans at the concert) to fund and equip a new ambulance serving rail passengers.
The ambulance began service in September.
Here's a summary of the press release from Citizens for Justice and Peace which
coordinated the effort.
Press Release
Two
Ambulances at Sion and Marine Lines Station
The Citizens
for Justice and Peace entered two
ambulances into service this September for any emergency care related
to rail
commuters. One more ambulance will be on Mumbai’s roads by
the end of December. CJP made this commitment to the ordinary
Mumbaikar,
traumatized after the terror attack on November 26, 2008. About 55
people shot at a rail station bled to
death because prompt
emergency trauma care was not readily available.
The CJP’s Initiative to contribute to the city’s failing
paramedic services was made possible due thanks to the generous
contributions received from Jethro Tull, the Vikram
Chatwals group, and through a concert and fashion week organized
by E 18 and Lakme IMG. Private donations
were also received on the day of the concert.
Thanks Letter
Dear Ian & everyone at Jethro Tull,
We at the Dial 1298 for Ambulance appreciate and wish to express
our gratitude to the band members of Jethro Tull and everyone who
was part of the team that helped raise the donation to make an
Ambulance operational in Mumbai.
We are pleased to inform you that the Ambulance has been made
operational since last month. The Ambulance is parked at Sion
Train Station
and mostly used to help victims of rail accidents. The Ambulance
has already completed over 34 calls.
